Oaklands is a Farmington Hills MI subdivision in name only. It is more like a geographic territory marking about a one-quarter square mile of land at the northwest corner of 13 Mile Road and Orchard Lake Road.

This is a perfect place for people who truly like variety.



These are both within the Oaklands subdivision.

Part of the Oaklands subdivision is older and has homes from the 1950's and 1960's. There are a couple of blocks of much larger and newer homes. As you probably figured, there are sections that fit between these. The only consistent thing here is the approximate yard size, which is average for a suburban subdivision. There are even both paved and dirt roads.


Typical of this type of a township style subdivision, there are plenty of older ranches, but there are newer ranches, also.


There are raised ranches.


There are plenty of older colonials.


There are even older colonials that maintain their charm.


There are also newer colonials here.


There are some even newer colonials within this subdivision.


There are also plenty of tri-level homes here.


Here is one of the street views of the older, country-like portion of the subdivision. The trees are mature, and the shade from some of them partially cover the road. There are other parts of this subdivision that have no mature trees, though.

The Oaklands subdivision is north of 13 Mile Road and west of Orchard Lake Road. The subdivision is directly accessible from both 13 Mile Road and Orchard Lake Road. However, it is also accessible from 14 Mile Road by going through Woodstream Farms and Farmington Road by going through multiple subdivisions.

This subdivision is near I-696, which provides easy access to many of the local major highways (M-10, M-39, I-275, and M-5 North). It is also near Northwestern Highway, providing even more traveling flexibility. Additionally, it is near a lot of shopping on Orchard Lake Road.
